I am a tenured Associate Professor at the Moon Soul Graduate School of Future Strategy, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
My research explores issues of “difference" in discursive communication environments that have implications for policy. I am interested in how people come to understand and demarcate differences, the effects of communication across lines of difference, and ways to overcome and coexist as a society beyond differences. More recently, I have been exploring the role of technological innovations in our understanding of difference.
My work has appeared in top-tiered journals in communication, such as the Journal of Communication, Communication Research, and New Media and Society. I was the recipient of the Young Scholar Award from the Korean Society for Journalism and Communication Studies. I am on the Editorial Board of several journals (Media Psychology, Communication Methods, and Measures) and will be serving as the Associate Editor for Human Communication Research.
Before joining KAIST, I worked at NTU Singapore for 10 years. I studied at Stanford University (Ph.D., Communication), University of Wisconsin—Madison (M.A., Communication Arts), and Yonsei University (B.A., Communication).
